Derived from aqui-D’el-Rei/aqui del-rei que nos acuda a common expression from the Royal Court in the Portuguese colonial era. It was used as a way to seek relief or help from the king when he passed by. It loosely translates to here is the king to help us/king help us.

In the modern capoeira context, it may be used in an ironic way to comment on a game in which one player is perhaps becoming a bit petulant in the roda as if to say oh, woe is me. Equally, it is used as a means of remembering the suffering of the enslaved Africans in Brazil whom believed that the king would save them from their daily torture.
